It’s good to have you here!
I’m starting a substack newsletter to share stories and disseminate information regarding trauma and nervous system healing. I want to help you understand and relate to your nervous system responses as they are outcries in a constricting culture. I’m eager to connect with you here in a personal way.
You’re receiving this email as we have been acquainted through my bodywork practice here on the lovely Oregon Coast. Cannon Beach Mobile Massage. I’ve extended my practice into Holistic Somatic Healing.
I want to reintroduce myself and Somatic Whole Being
I’m Tenisha, a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and Embodiment Guide. I have been a massage therapist and body worker for the last 10 years. After having the opportunity to work with thousands of bodies, I felt the desire to meet my clients in a more holistic and integrated manner. Realizing physical and mental ease depend and influence each other directly, I continued my graduate studies at Naropa University studying counseling, mindfulness, and transpersonal psychology. It was through this education and my private bodywork practice I could not ignore the prolific nature of trauma in our society.
I narrowed my focus in the healing arts by deepening my concentration in trauma. I concluded a 3-year intensive trauma and nervous system training called Somatic Experiencing, to effectively work with clients therapeutically using a somatic approach to promote wholeness and regulation.
All that to say…
I am excited about helping folks develop a relationship with their body. Somatic work is the process of getting to know myself (my body) from the inside out. Not what I think about myself, what I know about the world or my philosophies of it; but rather how do I experience myself. You see beliefs are actually created through experiences. These experiences inform our nervous systems on how they will act or react.
We experience the world through our unique bodies and these bodies are embedded in a larger social and cultural context. It is important to identify how this context affects our individual beings. My approach to Somatic Healing is to start by UNSHAMING the reactions of our nervous system. Not seeing our bodies as broken or our nervous systems as something to be arm wrestled into regulation.
My approach to nervous system health, trauma healing, and body wellness aims to relate to our dysregulation. Within pain or health disruption there is something wanting to be known. When approach our hurting by seeing it like a bud of a rose, rather than a thorn it has the opportunity to bloom and show us what is held so tightly within.
When working with folks I am seeking to know your wisdom held within your body, your budding rose. I am not comparing your flowering self to the common narrative or larger culture that demands you to HEAL to then look like a more acceptable and worthy member of society.
What your body and nervous system are doing now has intelligence running through it. This intelligence wants to be witnessed, listened to and further integrated so that bud has more permission to bloom.
I work in a variety of approaches:
Somatic Therapy: Unshaming your nervous system responses and finding your expression of aliveness.
Bodywork and Somatics: getting to know and supporting your nervous system through talk and touch
Massage: therapeutic and nurturing bodywork, body awareness, and nervous system balance
